Joaquin Peinado was a prominent representative of Spanish artists from the École de Paris. Still Life with Cherries was exhibited at Mánes in 1946 as part of the Art of Republican Spain exhibition, which featured artists from the Spanish École de Paris. Among them were Óscar Domínguez, Pablo Picasso, Luis Fernández, and Joaquin Peinado. Peinado exhibited a total of 12 works there. Still Life with Cherries is shrouded in provocative, intimate lighting that highlights striking contrasts. Bright colors shine through the darkness, and simple geometric forms reveal Peinado's sense of matter and its arrangement. The exhibition was extremely successful in the post-war period and also served as a political statement—a protest against Franco's fascist dictatorship. Verso stamp of the exhibition, catalogue number 179 and stamp of the collection of František Venera - secretary of the Group of Visual Artists in Brno, art dealer in Brno, art theorist, editor and publisher.
