In 1943, Ota Janeček was accepted into the Mánes Union of Fine Arts on the recommendation of Václav Špála. One of the lines of his work at this time was Cubist still lifes and wooden sculptures, which he continued to develop in 1944. This was preceded by experimentation with plaster and bark. He himself began with the idea that the sculptures would be enlarged in the future. The author devoted himself to sculpture intermittently throughout his life, although this art form received the most attention in the 1940s and 1960s. Janeček exhibited his sculptures continuously throughout his life at many exhibitions alongside his paintings. In the 1960s, this work was confronted with Otto Gutfreund's sculptures at an exhibition in London. In the case of the monumental sculpture on offer, it is a later bronze cast made by the author's son, Tomáš Janeček, from whom the accompanying certificate for the work also originates. The dimensions given include the pedestal.
