Karel Holan began studying architecture at the Czech Technical University in 1913, but did not complete his studies because he was drafted into the army during World War I. After his discharge from the army in 1915, he began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Prof. M. Pirner, K. Krattner, and V. Bukovac. The Holešovice motif from the exhibition grounds is a faithful record of the dreary Prague in the vicinity of the Academy of Fine Arts, which Holan knew well. The record shows the now historic railway bridge over Dukelských hrdinů Street, which was recently moved to the National Technical Museum.
