ANTIQUE CARABACH RUNNER

Hand knotted wool carpet on wool warp. A representative and extremely exuberant variation on a design sometimes also called “jangali” (jungle) in Persian, and which seems to have been mutually inspired by carpets from Karabakh and the cross-border and much closer northwestern Persia. The elaborate tangle of plants and trees here is a delightful garden of Eden, and the striking composite flowers, leaves and palmettos, surrounded by multiple floral borders, are particularly striking. A successful specimen in exceedingly vivid colours.
