It is a larger version of a bronze sculpture mounted on a plinth of black serpentinite depicting the Old Testament theme of Eve after sin, created by the prominent Czech sculptor Josef Mařatka. The work reflects the delicacy and dynamism of the female figure in the gesture of huddling, expressing a sense of shame that the naked bodies in the Garden of Eden had not known until then. Gretel, who was a pupil and collaborator of Auguste Rodin, brought his influence into his work, which is evident in the detail of the sculpture's treatment, in addition to its modern modelling. The dimension shown is with the plinth.
