From the expert opinion of PhDr. Nadězda Blažíčková-Horová: "Radimský went to France to learn about French Impressionist painting and to meet his model, Claude Monet. He lived in Giverny near Vernon, and a large painterly colony developed around him. Radimsky came to Giverny in 1894, first staying at the Hotel Baudy, then nearby at Le Goulet near Vernon, where he bought an old mill, La Bergamotte, and had it rebuilt according to his wishes. In Giverny, Radimsky produced a large body of daily views of the Seine River and its surroundings, capturing the Seine from different places at different times of the day and year. In the present painting, Seine in Autumn Weather, Radimsky showed how, in the manner of the French Impressionists, he was able to incorporate the mood of the landscape at a particular time of year and day into the painting. Václav Radimský's atmospheric moods, a sum of light, air and colour phenomena, in the final result give a wonderful impression of a rich play of light and shadow in the intentions of modern landscape impressionism."
