BAROQUE CHINOISERIE CABINET
1. Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts
168 x 115 x 55 cm (h x b x t)
| 4 898 EUR
The inspiration of Chinese and Japanese art in Europe begins with imports from these countries in the 17th century. Especially in the early 18th century, efforts to imitate entire architectures (pavilions, pagodas), materials, techniques or decor followed. These include, for example, Delft pottery, Meissen porcelain, French Rococo furniture, but also painting. The representative and very rare piece of furniture on offer represents a synthesis of two cultures. A Japanese cabinet from the Edo period is carried by a richly carved gilded wood table with baroque floral ornaments. The black and dark red lacquered lockable cabinet with brass hinges and fittings is covered on the doors and sides with a painting of a Japanese stylized landscape with local architecture, floral motifs and birds. The doors conceal a set of several smaller and larger drawers with a variety of painted subjects, including figural ones. The inner sides of the doors depict a bouquet of flowers with birds and a lakescape with architecture. Original Baroque table with carving probably of Italian provenance. Restored, cabinet with defects.
