Joža Uprka settled in his native Slovácko and it was his lifelong inspiration. His thematically distinct range of folklore and village life elevated his modern painting style to the level of artists of European scale. Although his focus may have been quite narrow, he creates a very valuable coherent series that demonstrates a very clear painterly intent. Because of his distinction, Joža Uprka became a purposeful documenter of folk customs and blended it with an unusually mature painterly handwriting. The depicted Mařaťa woman from Uherské Hradiště is wearing a festive costume for a feast, with typical pleated sleeves, a red Turkish scarf and a brocade skirt.
