Antonín Kybal (1901 - 1971) MASK

Antonín Kybal was our most prominent personality of home textile design and an innovator of textile creation in the 20th century. Through his work and later his teaching, he raised textile design from the sphere of conservative and declining traditional craftsmanship into a completely unique artistic means of expression, corresponding to the language of modernism. Kybal's main contribution was his ability to assert high aesthetic, craft and material demands in industrial production and to blend them with current aesthetic trends. He was a pioneer in the technique of art protis, who managed to establish it as a form of artistic realisation in public and private spaces.
