Jan Václav Mrkvička (1856 - 1938) SUMMER LANDSCAPE

Ivan Mrkvička, also by his own name Jan Václav Mrkvička, became a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1918. He returned from Bulgaria to Bohemia in 1921, where he mainly painted portraits, including those of prominent politicians. A number of Mrkvicka's paintings are owned by the Sofia City Gallery and the National Gallery in Prague. The landscape works of Jan Václav Mrkvička are much less known and are almost absent from the market. Fragments of it can be seen on postcards that were circulated after his return to Bohemia.
