Eastern China, Canton region, second half of the 19th century. This large porcelain Chinese bowl with a lid is made in the Canton export style and is beautifully hand-painted with enamel. The design depicts a lush garden, probably with a paradise bird. The mark on the bottom is a classic reminder of the earlier Qing dynasty era, in English transcription "Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi", meaning "made during the Qing dynasty during the era of Emperor Qianlong", which is an apocryphal mark of respect for ancestors found on many later porcelain objects.
