A large hammered copper bowl, formerly entirely tin-plated (for aesthetic and hygienic reasons), with Persian calligraphy and various classical Islamic ornaments in the form of stylized flowers and palmettes. The upper calligraphic band probably bears the name of the creator or commissioner of the bowl, "Mostafa Mohammed Morteza Alí." The style of this charming bowl imitates designs from the earlier Safavid period in Persia (1501-1736) and can thus be described as part of the so-called "Safavid revival", when Qajar metalworkers returned to the inspirational potential of the previous famous dynasty.
