August Bedřich Piepenhagen (1791 - 1868) SAMPLER - THREE STUDIES

Views of mountain formations, rocks, and boulders with paths winding around them were a frequent motif in Piepenhagen's work, paraphrased many times. He drew inspiration for his subjects primarily from his pattern books. These pattern books, containing small variations of natural motifs ranging in size from 3 to 20 centimeters, are a unique feature of Piepenhagen's work in both Czech and European paintings. Dimensions of drawings (in passe-partout cutout): 8.5 x 10 cm, 6 x 6 cm, 5 x 6 cm.
