Porcelain coffee set consisting of six cups (6.4 cm) and a pot. The pot has an elegant conical body set on a foot; the spout terminates in a gilded animal (lion) head. The decoration on the body includes two hand-painted miniatures depicting an elephant and a lion (in a somewhat naive style), set in natural landscapes and rendered with great attention to detail. The upper and lower edges are adorned with gilded lines. Each cup is individually decorated with unique motifs: animal scenes (elephant, dog in a landscape), genre scenes (a child in a pink dress blowing bubbles, a boy doing a handstand), architectural motifs (a figure in front of a romantic ruin or village building). The cups are further embellished with a fine gilded line along the upper rim. Each piece has its own character and painting, and each saucer features a different landscape scene – typical of handcrafted porcelain production. Marked on the underside (illegible).
Defect: gilding partially worn.
