Small porcelain lidded box, decorated with hand-painted romantic scenes set in landscapes: a river with a boat, a ruined castle, and figurative motifs. Each scene is framed by a gilded border composed of acanthus scrolls and volutes. The lid features miniatures on both the outer and inner sides in the same style. The rim of the lid is edged with very fine brass mountings adorned with Gothic ornamentation. The combination of painted and gilded porcelain with brass fittings creates an elegant small object, suitable as a representative jewelry box or a keepsake piece.
Defect: chips on the underside.
