Pavel Janák (1882 - 1956) CUBIST BOX WITH LID

This rare Cubist box with a lid in blue and gold glaze was made by Graniton, Rydl & Thon, Svijany, based on a design by Pavel Janák. Cubist interior artifacts, especially those from the period between 1910 and 1914, represent unique and valuable examples of Czech design. Cubism developed as a style only in Bohemia, where it found application before World War I not only in painting and sculpture, but also in architecture, furniture design, and utilitarian objects made of ceramics, metals, and glass.
