GOTHIC MADONNA

The late Gothic Madonna, judging by the design of the figure, originates from Central Europe. Her right knee is slightly pressed into her robe, and the entire figure is thus slightly turned to the left side and leaning towards the right shoulder. The elongated head with a high-quality carving of Mary's face is partially covered by a veil. The missing upper part of the infant Jesus's body shows that his head was originally positioned at the level of Mary's. The drapery is rendered in horizontal folds layered on the front of the figure. The opening of the upper cloak divides the figure in half. Prague collection.
