Jíra's earlier work represents a less frequent phase of his career, characterized by high luminosity and a lesser degree of stylization. Although Jíra fondly remembered his years painting outdoors under the guidance of Prof. Nejedlý, 1952 marked a turning point when he left the academy and began to find his own voice as a painter. He felt too constrained by the conditions at the academy. At first, he was unable to establish himself artistically and worked as a laborer. After this artistic interlude, he began experimenting again, and his works took on a dark color palette.
