PRAGUE BAROQUE TABLE CLOCK
um 1780
58 x 35 x 21 cm (h x b x t)
| 1 458 EUR
The rare Prague late Baroque clock consists of a blackened pear box with a mansard roof and side slides, which is complemented by brass figural and floral decorations. According to the literature, this is a clock by the important Prague clockmaker Bernard Biswanger. Although he was originally an Austrian clockmaker from Folbach, he came to Prague before 1771 and settled in Mala Strana. He married Barbara, the daughter of watchmaker Josef Uhl, and founded a large family of watchmakers active until the mid-19th century. Above the enamel dial with Arabic numerals is an original medallion in the centre with a painting of a landscape with a fisherman, the movement in running condition is quarter beaten. To be adjusted by a watchmaker, restored. The clock comes from an important Prague collection. Literature: Analogous clock by Bernard Biswanger reproduced in the book Clocks and Watches, Emanuel Poche, Libuše Urešová, Prague 1987, page 163, photograph no. 15.
