Josef Istler (1919 - 2000) COMPOSITION

Josef Istler found his own artistic language, using various symbols and imaginative combinations of elements to create drama. He also experimented with technique, creating haptic structures, sometimes using the encaustic technique. At the same time, he was not afraid to outline themes of human existentialism and the weight of fate. He progressed from concrete elements towards abstraction. Josef Istler was significantly influenced by his encounters with Toyen and K. Teige and was a founding member of the Ra Group.
