Peter Shire's work, inspired by Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco, seeks to bridge the gap between fine art and industrial design. His designs caught the attention of Ettore Sottsass, who invited him to collaborate with Memphis, for whom he designed several iconic pieces: the "Brazil" table (1981) and the "Bel Air" chair (1982), as well as the "Hollywood" conference table. In the 1980s, he began working on the American Institute of Architects' design team for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. His works are represented in several museum collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the MAD Museum of Art and Design in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Defect on the top plate in the form of a crack. The coffee table comes from the important collection of renowned artist and collector Ivan Steiger, who purchased it in the 1980s.
