Ladislav Dydek studied at the School of Applied Arts in Brno and then at the Academy in Prague. He was one of the leading members of the Máj 57 art group, active at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. The painting dates from the period before his emigration to Italy. The main means of expression are color effects and distinctive black contours, which appear harmoniously and locally. In the 1950s and 1960s, he devoted himself to monumental decorative work in architecture. For example, he is the author of ceramic reliefs for a cinema in Havířov, artprotis for the House of Fashion in Prague, and reliefs in a Prague metro underpass.
