The works of the Czech German Franz Metzner are mostly associated with architecture. Metzner participated in the decoration of a number of important buildings in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, the most famous work is probably the decoration of the Stoclet Palace in Brussels. The pair of sculptures made of glazed ceramics belong to the peak period of this important sculptor. The sculptures were made at the Vocational School of Ceramics in Teplice, published in the exhibition catalog: Franz Metzner, Ein Bildhauer der Jahrhundertwende in Berlin - Wien - Prag - Leipzig, 1977, p. 116 „Die Frierende, I.“ and „Die Frierende, II. “.
