Otakar Kubín (Othon Coubine) is one of the few Czech artists whose life, work and artistic contacts have influenced wider European history. After studying at the stonemasonry school in Hořice, he continued his studies at the Prague Academy under Václav Brožík, Vojtěch Hynais, Hanus Schweiger and Franz Thiele, and finally at the Royal Academy in Antwerp. From 1913 he lived permanently in France, exhibited at the Salon des Independents and acquired French citizenship. In the 1920s he settled for a long time in Simiane-la Rotonde in Provence. Here he produced a series of paintings of typical Provençal landscapes, which are now considered the core of his life's work and are highly sought after by collectors. The offered painting Blooming Almond Trees from 1935 belongs to this group. Despite the somewhat more compact manuscript compared to earlier works, it is a representative work of excellent quality.
