Jan Kubíček (1927 - 2013) FIVE PHASES OF THE ELEMENTS "L"

A set of five canvases from the Lettrist work of Jan Kubíček, who, like many other artists and before them Dadaists, typographers and scribes in scriptoria, was enchanted by the beauty of writing. Jan Kubíček began as a landscape painter and was fascinated by the city, and subsequently profiled himself through constructivism to illustration and the design of film posters. Lettrism as a fascination with type, which works with the graphic sign in its free liberated form, fascinated him and he was able to find in it both a strict geometry and a certain playfulness and lyricism. Just as in Apollinaire's poems we see calligrams flowing with the poetry, so in Kubíček's work we find sign, gesture and minimalism.
