Miloslav Holý studied at the Prague Academy with Max Švabinský, Josef Loukota, Jakub Obrovský, Vlaho Bukovac and Jan Preisler. Later, between 1947 and 1958, he himself worked as a professor at the Academy. He is probably best known for his membership of a small socially and civilist-oriented group of painters of the 1920s, ironically called HoHoKoKo (Holan, Holý, Kotík, Kotrba). From 1923 onwards, he made repeated trips to Paris, where he attended, among other things, lectures by František Kupka. One of these trips took place in 1931, when the painting View on the Pont des Arts was created. It bears the typical features of the artist's style, consisting in a soft, almost diffuse texture of brightened luminosity.
