Vojta Nolč (1912 - 1989) GARDEN RESTAURANT

Vojta Nolč was a graduate of the Higher German Business School in Pilsen and for some time worked as a bank clerk. At the same time he studied art in the private studios of Alois Bohac and Vladimír Pukl. He was a member of the progressive art group Máj 57 active at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. The offered painting Garden Restaurant, although undated, can be classified as belonging to the active period of this group. Both in its subject matter and in its painting style and execution, based on strong shape reduction, flatness and the expressive function of colour, it points to the inspirational sources of Expressionism and Fauvism, which are developed here in a distinctive and inimitable way.
