The drawing captures a male figure from the back with a foot put forward, and an outstretched arm ready for a mighty strike. The strength and dynamics of the figure and its whole conception alludes to the later work of Giovanni da Bologna, which for example includes the sculptural group of Hercules fighting the Centaur Nessus. The drawing was undoubtedly inspired by the Hercules by the Mannerist sculptor Adrian de Vries. Glazed drawing on a greyish paper. Ink and white paint. Slight damage, bent top corners.
