Johan Pertl was born and grew up in the glass region of the Highlands. From 2015 to 2018 he studied at the Czech Technical University in the studio of Marian Karel and at the same time worked in the DECHEM studio. Then he graduated in the Glass Studio at the Prague UMPRUM under the guidance of Rony Plesl. In this year's international Diploma Selection he took 2nd place with his diploma work Monumentality. He creates most of his objects himself and is fascinated by handmade glasswork. In his glass work he is fascinated by the natural and social mechanisms that surround us. The Utopia series is inspired by the desire to escape everyday reality and the concepts of 19th century utopians. It is an attempt to represent something fleeting and difficult to grasp. Working with elements of monumentality or exuberance (natura naturans) brings a touch of the unexpected to the works. The collection of sculptural furniture is made of fused crystal glass. For this series, an original moulding technique was developed, which allowed the creation of such shape-complicated objects. Thanks to hand modelling, each table is an original.
