Harlequin (Arlecchino) in the commedia dell'arte is cunning to the point of malice, often thinking mainly of himself. The theme of the jealous Harlequin, who wants everything for himself and keeps Columbine on a leash or in a cage, was worked on by Adolf Born several times in graphics. In Born's view, the sinister harlequin is a distinctive caricature of himself. Adolf Born became the leading personality of the generation that created and raised modern Czech cartoon humor to the world level. Since the 1960s, when he first introduced himself as a cartoonist, his works have been exhibited and appreciated around the world.
