The painting reflects the artist's focus on a single section of space, a specific landscape scene, or one could say a landscape detail, which is typical for the master's late work. The smooth brushstrokes are also typical; as PhDr. Blažíčková-Horová describes the assessment for the work, the "brush drawing" precisely captures each leaf, each blade of grass. The interplay of light and shadow, creating an enchanting, almost mysterious atmosphere, is also unmistakable and typical for the artist. Mařák systematically approached forest subjects. He created a vast number of painted sketches outdoors, into which he breathed life gradually, with focused, precise painting in the studio. This is also the case for the work presented here. Oil on canvas. Signed "J. Mařák" on bottom right. Assessment: PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová.
