An impressive and rare French cartel console clock in a combination of blackened polished wood with fire-gilt bronzes with floral motifs and polished brass. The large enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals signed Baillon a Paris. Jean Baptiste II Baillon was one of the renowned master clockmakers in Paris. His son, also a master clockmaker, Jean Baptiste III, became so famous that he became a royal clockmaker; his private collections were extremely valuable in his time, not least because he was said to be the richest clockmaker in Europe. Excellent condition, restored. Machine to be adjusted.
