A PERSIAN RUG MEYMEH

A hand-knotted Persian carpet with a very recognizable and distinctive design, which a small town in central Iran has been keeping for several centuries. Although several places in the region north of Isfahan are dedicated to carpet production, it is the aforementioned Meymeh, whose own design is called 'jangali' (jungle) in Persian - the tangle of plants and trees in a diamond medallion arrangement is typically set against a dark red field, with ivory elements added for contrast. The offered specimen features, among other things, stylized orchids and branches of mourning willows (which in the Persian world, unlike our traditions, symbolize happiness and joy). A successful specimen with a signature in bordure ('Manufactory Manouchehr Heydar Khani, work of Morcechord').
