Jan Bauch (1898 - 1995) ATELIER

The work Atelier is interesting for its combination of expressiveness and a certain delightful poetics and vitality, which in the gloomy times of totalitarianism could seem somewhat like a revelation. Jan Bauch forms the composition with dense, almost sculptural strokes and builds his own artistic ecosystem, which brought him pleasure. He layered the colors one after another with gusto and his characteristic spontaneity. The work comes from the collection of Ivan Steiger, NG label on the reverse, exhibited in Great Britain, no. 36.
