GIANT BRONZE MEDITATING BUDDHA

Siam, 19th century. A unique monastic artifact from the era of the Thai kingdom of Rattanakosin (probably present-day Bangkok). Cast and heavily gilded bronze of a meditating Buddha sitting on a massive triple lotus pedestal in the "touching the earth" position. Era of Enlightenment (1851-68) or later era of reforms (1868-1910).
