An imaginary celebratory portrait depicts Emperor Rudolph II. at the head of a victorious military campaign against the Turkish invasion of the Kingdom of Hungary. Adriaen de Vries, originally a Dutch sculptor and draftsman, and Aegidius Sadeler, originally a Flemish draftsman and engraver, were leading artistic figures at the court of Rudolph II.
