A PAIR OF SHIRVAN RUGS

A woolen carpet for export from the East Caucasus region of Shirvan, which has apparently undergone extensive repair in the past. One of the classic designs of the region, with multi meaningful symbolism in the form of magical eyes, scorpion, ram's horns, etc., all surrounded by a classic Caucasian border in the form of stylized jagged mountains. The side triangles with a multitude of hooks represent the highly stylized figure of the dragon, popular in the Caucasus especially thanks to Chinese art.
