TWO CHAIRS H-79
1930-1931
bent tubular chromed steel, fabric
88 x 52 x 65 cm (h x w x d)
| 1 224 €
The two double suspension chairs with the model number H-79 are the work of the prominent designer and architect Jindřich Halabala, who started working for UP in 1928 and became its company architect in 1930. It was also at this time that tubular furniture began to enjoy the interest of a wider range of customers and became fashionable. Nevertheless, it was not a mass production and a limited number of models were made. The H-79 model is Halabal's own interpretation of the classic two-legged chair designed in one tubular line and covered with iron yarn. The chair impresses with its avant-garde formal austerity. The elasticity here lies in the combination of both suspension principles at the same time, with the steel tubes running diagonally forward from the sled on the floor and then returning to the backrest. This creates a double suspension. Especially in the 1930s, UP factories fundamentally influenced and co-created the interior design of public and private buildings. Geometric austerity and material functionality - exhibiting hygiene and easy maintainability in furniture - is balanced by the aesthetic component of form with its relationship to material and colour. From the mid-1930s onwards, a new aesthetic concept began to take hold, manifested in roundness in overall outline and detail. Completely restored, new fabric.
