Anderle’s graphic work combines a refined artistic style with a deep knowledge of the works of the old masters. Drawing on Dürer’s legacy, he reinterprets the theme of the irony of Nemesis and Fortuna—that is, just retribution and wealth/fortune. As if both artists were looking beneath the surface, Dürer depicts her as a potbellied, elderly lady with a goblet and a bridle, balancing above the landscape. Jiří Anderle looks even deeper and constructs her body from chaos, turbulence, and physicality, suggesting that these are aspects of treacherous and insatiable goddesses. The artwork has been framed behind museum-grade anti-reflective glass with a UV filter.
