Pavel Hlava was born in Semily, graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Železný Brod, and continued his studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in Karel Štipl’s studio. For industrial production, primarily for the Crystalex company, he designed tableware, and at the Central Office of Folk Art Production (ÚLUV) he sold original pieces: pressed, cut, and sandblasted vases and bowls, as well as glass formed in the furnace with ruby or cobalt inserts. The two-part glass object is made of molten-formed green-red (uranium and garnet) glass with the artist’s characteristic punctures into the interior of the form. The work was exhibited at Pavel Hlava’s exhibition at the Václav Špála Gallery in Prague, which took place from October to November 1974. A small piece of glass is missing from the vertical object at the site of one of the punctures.
