The painter Josef Ingriš trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of Professor Vojtěch Hynais. His work is classified as part of the Czech academic painting movement of the first half of the twentieth century. In addition to nudes influenced by Art Deco trends, he also devoted himself to portraiture. This accomplished and ethnographically interesting work is a detailed depiction of a girl in traditional Vlčnov folk costume. She wears a Turkish scarf on her head; her vest is adorned with large red tassels, and her pleated, starched sleeves with gathers and ruffles feature red geometric embroidery.
