FUNCTIONALIST TABLE
1930s
stained oak wood, chrome-plated steel
68 x 90 x 40 cm (h x w x d)
Starting price
This elegant functionalist side table by Mücke & Melder is a typical example of Czechoslovak Bauhaus design from the 1930s. It combines simple geometry, practicality—as seen in the folding shelf—and the technical aesthetic that was characteristic of Mücke & Melder’s work. The manufacturer specialized in furniture made of chrome-plated steel tubing, inspired by the modernist designs of Marcel Breuer and other avant-garde designers. Mücke & Melder ranks among the most significant manufacturers of functionalist furniture in interwar Czechoslovakia. The company was founded in Fryštát (now part of Karviná). Excellent condition.
