This Flemish late Gothic bronze candlestick, dated 1597 and bearing a dedication, was crafted between 1490 and 1500 from cast and turned bronze, following the stylistic conventions of the period. The cast conical base of the candlestick rotates within a profiled shaft. The base, body, and wax catcher are decorated with thin, cut rings. The wax catcher has a narrow vertical rim. The body is hollow inside up to the first protrusion. On the candlestick’s base is the inscription: “Confrérie de la Trinité” (Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity) and “1597”. This is related to the “Ordre des Trinitaires,” a Catholic religious order founded in the 12th century at the monastery of Cerfroid, near Paris. Given the inscription, this candlestick was donated to the order in the year 1597. Original condition.
