Alva Hajn, sculptor and painter, creator of works in architecture and public spaces, and a member of the Starý psi group. This sculptural piece exemplifies the artist’s work from the 1980s, a period in which he moved away from realistic subjects and the vibrant color palette of his earlier work. The color scheme recedes, leaving behind black, white, and the raw quality of the material. The artist’s spontaneity is transformed into a pure gesture that becomes a unique statement about human existence—about its weight and fragility. Alva Hajn was among the artists who were unable to exhibit during the Normalization period. His work remained an authentic, internally free expression that sought the essence of human existence through raw materials and dynamic gestures.
