For Jindra Viková, the 1990s were marked by teaching stints abroad in the United States, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia. In 1992, the artist held one solo exhibition in Prague and participated in five group exhibitions both in the Czech Republic and abroad. She gained international renown in the 1980s for her meticulously painted porcelain sculptures. The silhouette of the bust, without any ambition to resemble a specific face, appears in the artist’s typically dreamlike, almost surrealistic atmosphere. The process of metamorphosis, which we sense in the composition of the green form facing forward, takes on an animalistic yet thoroughly abstract form. The large sculpture Devouring, consisting of a total of five parts made of durable fireclay intended for outdoor use, represents a major work from 1992. A defect in the form of a crack on the sculpture’s beak.
