FISHERMAN'S COTTAGE NEAR A POND
oil on plywood on canvas
21 x 31 cm (h x w)
sign. lower right: Anto: Waldhauser
| 750 €
Antonín Waldhauser was one of the finest landscape painters of his time and contributed illustrations to "Zlatá Praha". In his early work, he focused on historical painting, but later he painted almost exclusively landscapes in southern and eastern Bohemia and Moravia. He also painted winter scenes and did not shy away from depicting industrial outskirts. Although Waldhauser belonged to the Romantic generation, the landscape ultimately captivated him so much that he leaned toward Realism. This small-format work meets the Romantic demands for mood and the natural impact of the scene, yet the details are rendered with great fidelity, without excessive embellishments or figurative elements. Exhibition stamps: Goltzova Tvrz, September 11–30, 2004, and the Gallery of Fine Arts in Havlíčkův Brod, December 12, 2008–February 8, 2009.
