VASE WITH A LIZARD
1920s-30s
Pâtte-de-verre glass
30 cm (h)
Sign.: G. ARGY – ROUSSEAU
| 1 458 €
Gabriel Argy-Rousseau was a French sculptor, ceramist, and glass artist, and a leading figure of the Art Deco style. Thanks to his early interest in chemistry, which he studied, he was able to work innovatively with the colors and structure of glass. He made a significant contribution to the rediscovery and refinement of the ancient pâte-de-verre technique. He was one of the few artists who mastered this demanding technique to a masterful degree, and in his time he was entirely unique in that he produced colorful works, while his competitors used this technique to create only clear white glass. The lizard vase is entirely exceptional in how it differs from the workshop’s standard production. It first appeared on the market in 1930.
