Otto Gutfreund (1889 - 1927) GIRL'S HEAD WITH FLYING HAIR

In this portrait, probably of the sculptor's daughter Alena, Otto Gutfreund builds on his earlier sculptures, such as Mask with Cut-Out Eyes from 1919, which was influenced by his stay in Paris. The space of the eyes, which the ancient Etruscans filled with other materials, is left empty here for the viewer's imagination. Otto Gutfreund, whose work continues to enjoy unflagging collector interest, is one of our most important sculptors of international renown. This is a later cast.
