RARE AFGHAN KELIM CARPET

A very rare and absolutely unique hand-woven woolen kilim. The numbers show the date 1316, which according to the Hijri calendar would be 1898, but according to the Afghan (as well as Persian and Kurdish) calendar, it is 1935. The verses of the poem in Persian script (in the Dari language) praise the sacrifices of Afghan martyrs in the three Anglo-Afghan wars, after which the independence of the Afghan monarchy blossomed, hence the depiction of a flower/tree with the Afghan flag. The numbers correspond more to the Pashto style, which may have been the intention of the creator(s) of the kilim. A completely unique textile, probably the only one of its kind in the world. Good condition, signs of age and wear, professionally cleaned on both sides.
