A saint originally from the 3rd century who professed her Christian faith and was tortured and imprisoned. She was ultimately executed by her own father. The composition depicts the tower where she was imprisoned in the background, while the figural group portrays the saint’s execution. Saint Barbara holds a palm branch and a flaming heart as symbols of true faith; at her feet lies a sword, the instrument of her execution.
